Why do you use British spellings in many of your stories, especially those which originate in the United States?

As an international news service with bureaux around the world, Reuters provides English-language content with both British and American spellings. Our general approach is to use American spellings in the Online Reports aimed primarily at U.S. clients, but occasionally a "harbour" or "defence" makes it through. In addition, for our Company and Markets news feeds, even some stories which originate in the United States are taken from global pools containing British spelling.

We feel readers on both sides of the Atlantic seeking the best and fastest online financial news, can recognize/recognise both variations.
